Description

In October--National Cyber Security Awareness Month-- the National Science Foundation (NSF) and IEEE-USA joined with the Congressional Cybersecurity Caucus of the U.S. House of Representatives to present a briefing on Capitol Hill on “Privacy and Cybersecurity in a Connected Age.” It featured three leading scientists and recipients of NSF support discussing fundamental research on the nature of cybersecurity threats, and new, innovative ways of combating vulnerabilities that threaten everyone’s security and privacy. Roxana Geambasu (left), assistant professor in the Computer Science Department at Columbia University in New York, talked about the need for transparency in data use and discussed “XRay,” a tool her team developed to show connections between words in email and advertising that is targeted to the individual.
