Summary[edit]

Description
English: In October--National Cyber Security Awareness Month-- the National Science Foundation (NSF) and IEEE-USA joined with the Congressional Cybersecurity Caucus of the U.S. House of Representatives to present a briefing on Capitol Hill on “Privacy and Cybersecurity in a Connected Age.” It featured three leading scientists and recipients of NSF support discussing fundamental research on the nature of cybersecurity threats, and new, innovative ways of combating vulnerabilities that threaten everyone’s security and privacy. Gary McGraw, currently the chief technology officer at Cigital, Inc., talked about the trajectory from basic research to cybersecurity products. In 1997, McGraw received a NSF Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) award for work on genetic algorithms for computer software test data generation. Find out more in this video of the briefing at www.nsf.gov/news/mmg/mmg_disp.jsp?med_id=77407.
