Thank you for creating a template for the maps of ukraine. Good idea. --Steschke 09:27, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Pixelquelle is not PD
Hi, despite your claim, Image:Flaming cocktails.jpg is not PD. Their License is rather annoyingly strict and stupid. -- 217.234.54.161

Copyright tags
Hi. You changed the borders and image size on some copyright tags. I restored the borders so they look similiar and the tags are more easily recognized. Also the image size of 50px seemed a bit too small, and i changed the images to 64px. Basically I don't mind the exact design of the tags, as long as they are looking similiar. See Commons:Image copyright tags visual. Hope this is OK with you. -- Chris 73 23:55, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Colosseum.jpg
Hi, there is already a file called Colosseum.jpg in the wikipedia in some languages. Could you change the name in something like: "Colosseum by night.jpg". That would make ik possible to place the beautiful photo in wikipedia for those languages. I would appriciate a lot! Dub 01:57, 12 dec 2004 (UTC)
Xmas message
You were right about Santa Hat and I'll delete the picture. And I answered about your deleting Xmas message on the Main page talk page. That wasn't very nice of you, to the say the least. villy 08:18, 25 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Image:Identical twin brothers.jpeg
You deleted Image:Identical twin brothers.jpeg giving the reason: "Stock.xcnhg is not Public Domain, nor is its license compatible with Commons.", what exactly is not "compatable with the Commons" about "There are no usage restrictions for this photo." ? --Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 08:19, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Photos and Categories
Thanks you for your improvement of my link to dvd.jpg with [[:image:dvd.jpg]]. :-)
Also I have observed that you added all my DVD photos [[Category:DVD]]. This not a good idea, because in Wikimedia Commons you must categorize on other way. Would you be so kind to read the article Commons:First steps again. Thanks --ocrho 11:32, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- This is arguable. Many people, myself included, think that images should be put in categories as category pages generate automatic galleries. See Commons:Images on normal pages or categories:Vote. ed g2s • talk 10:37, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Template:Information
Hello Ed g2s, User:Arnomane still would like to force his new template without further discussions. For example. he changed the German upload page, which now tries to force you to use this template. I've seen your comments on the template discussion page and I agree with you. I think, the "other versions" parameter is quite obscure (I counted that it is used only on 7 of 120 randomly selected pictures description pages now, that is about 5%), more improvements are required and a larger group of people should be included in this discussion - because it affects all uploaders.
Discussing with Arnomane himself is quite useless - I tried it a lot. He don't like to change anything and forces all people to use it as it is. He even goes through the image list and just replaces descriptions by his template. On one of my "picture of the day", he even removed text parts.
I'm an administrator in the German Wikipedia and contributed more than 230 images to the Commons. But I'm still not sure, where and how this could be discussed here. Do you know what could be done to improve this template? How can more affected people be included? -- Thank you, Aka 07:48, 4 May 2005 (UTC)
Template:PhotoInfo
I've created the above, BTW, from the photo library output, which you might find useful.

How long is this image going to hang around on commons with a copyvio tag?--Duk 13:36, 15 May 2005 (UTC)
- you tell me - you're the admin and the one who tagged it as a copyvio. If it needs to go on Commons:Deletion requests then why didn't you list it there when you tagged it as a copyvio? The reason I ask is because It was used at .en, leading to its own page and copyvio notice there, which needs to be cleaned up after the image is deleted from commons. --Duk 04:41, 17 May 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, you changed the tag from {{copyrighted}} to {{Copyvio}}. So were you planning to answer my questions (Ed)? They are simple questions. --Duk 15:58, 17 May 2005 (UTC)
- Read James' comment again, I "updated" the tag. Template:Copyrighted is a deprecated version of Template:Copyvio. I went through the" what links here" for the old template and changed them all to copyvio. SPUI tagged it, so (s)he should list it if (s)he thinks it should be deleted. ed g2s • talk 16:05, 17 May 2005 (UTC)
- Wonderfull, now I understand, and I bet it didn't even hurt to explain, Ed. So does the image need to be listed on Commons:Deletion requests? Your note on my talk page wasn't clear. --Duk 16:14, 17 May 2005 (UTC)
- Please don't take that tone on my talk page, we did explain, it's not our fault you didn't understand. The image should be listed on deletion requests - but I'm not the one who thinks it's a copyvio. ed g2s • talk 16:21, 17 May 2005 (UTC)

Check your facts before taking an agressive tone
Ed, I ask simple, straight forward questions, in good faith for a good reason. And I get what seems like backsass from you and JD. That's my impression, I'm sorry if you think I'm being agressive. --Duk 16:23, 17 May 2005 (UTC)

- And when I answer you in kind you take offense?--Duk 16:25, 17 May 2005 (UTC)
- "What are you doing here?", "it didn't hurt to explain" and "were you planning to answer my questions" are not phrases you use in polite conversation. Just try and be more civil in future and remember that tone-of-voice doesn't convey in text. Hostility doesn't help anyone. ed g2s • talk 16:38, 17 May 2005 (UTC)

About Potd Caption templates
In response to my comment on Commons:Village pump#Potd_image_captions, you responded on my talk page as following.
- I tried to do what you're trying to with potd when I first set up the template system, but it won't work unfortunately ;). ed g2s • talk 10:58, 20 May 2005 (UTC)

You can't change the past
Hi Ed. In January, you deleted Image:Closeup of an blue-green human eye.jpeg (correctly, since it was believed that Stock.xchng photos weren't allowed here). You also changed the November 11, 2004 "picture of the day" to a different picture. You can't change the past! I suggest that if a POTD is subsequently deleted due to being unfree, the dead link should be left alone at the POTD archive. Cheers, dbenbenn | talk 30 June 2005 18:34 (UTC)

What kind of an idiot uses gps to (presumably) get the scale and geometry right for a map they make, and then fails to add a scale to the map? Every map worth its salt has a scale. See SPUI's example at Wikimania Media Competition to see how it's done.
Commons:Administrators RFA
Hi Ed,
Can you take a look at Commons:Administrators. The voting there appears to be almost inactive, and given that the window for nominations is 7 days, it could probably benefit from a little more attention. -- Solipsist 06:41, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
Template:GFDL-en
I don't think the disclaimers have any bearing on the license. The images are still released under the GFDL. ed g2s • talk 12:11, 30 August 2005 (UTC)
- The GFDL states that in any Modified Version you must "Preserve any Warranty Disclaimers". dbenbenn | talk 12:32, 30 August 2005 (UTC)
RfA
Are you archiving the requests for adminship when you process them? If not, we probably should start doing so. ed g2s • talk 17:09, 29 August 2005 (UTC)
- Some time ago, people were asked to create a subpage in order to submit a request for adminship. These subpages still exist, so that it is a kind of archive I guess. Then it changed, I don't really know why. Now, I don't archive but of course I do comment when I delete a vote : they are still reachable through the history page. Of course you're welcome to create a real archive system if you want so. villy ♦ ✎ 09:47, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
- I think I changed it to a multi-page system very early on, but it was changed back a few months later. Anyway I have changed it back now again and have compiled an archive from the various page histories: Commons:Administrators/Archive. If you could list nominations here when they are complete that would be good. ed g2s • talk 20:31, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
- No problem, you've done a neat and useful work ; I'll list nominations there from now on. villy ♦ ✎ 07:48, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

I'm not 100% happy with the SVG renderer yet, so I'd like to keep the PNGs for now. I'll delete them when it's time. ed g2s • talk 23:13, 14 September 2005 (UTC)
- Alright. What's wrong with SVG rendering? Do you think it's a problem with inkscape that will eventually be fixed? dbenbenn | talk 13:08, 15 September 2005 (UTC)

Hello ed g2s,
can you update please your DLR map (Image:Docklands Light Railway.svg), because at December 2 opened a new branch to King George V. Thanks and greetings from Berlin --Jcornelius 19:29, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
Image:Rparksmug1.jpg
After sending an inquiry to the US copyright office I have discovered that all mug shots should indeed be public domain images, and have also changed to mugshot image tag as well. --Fallout boy 01:37, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
Travelcard Zone 1
Thanks for your very neat geographical Travelcard Zone 1 map. There are a couple of nits that it would be great to correct if you could: see the talk page. Thanks! [2] 82.70.194.38 09:16, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
Travelcard Zone 2
If you're just highlighting Zone 2, shouldn't Zone's 1 and 3 be grey and Zone 2 be white? I understand that it's a crop from a full map and they alternate, but because this is highlighting an even‐numbered Zone couldn't you swap the backgrounds? It would help. Also, any ETA on the SVG version? Nickshanks 21:55, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
JavaScript-Screenshots
The Screenshots you deleted were from the Mozilla-Firefox, not from Internet-Explorer. Why is there a copyright from Microsoft? Or have I to make the screenshots under a Suse-Linux? Please tell me! Thanks --S.Möller 20:15, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
- I've replaced all my screenshots (12 at the moment) with new ones I've taken under "Suse-Linux" with the webbrowser "Konqueror". I hope it will be o.k. now - if not please tell me. Thank you very much for telling me the problem with the copyright. I didn't know that all Windows-Screenshots are under copyright from Microsoft.

deletion of "Image:King Albert II of Belgium 2.jpg
Hi, you have deleted this image. That picture is still in use on several projects. Deletion of images used are projects is not responsible. That is what why wikipedia-users start to hate commons.
You have not give a notice to the uploader about this. User:Mtcv. I can not find the notification about this on the page Commons:Deletion requests. Your deletion comment is very cryptic "(NC, ND)". Please clarify your actions. Please respond here. Greetings, --Walter 18:18, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- The image was marked as coming from an EU website, thus prohibiting commerial use (Non Commercial, NC), and derivative works (ND). These images are not acceptable on Wikimedia Commons. It is the responsibility of the users who add the images to the articles to check the license first. ed g2s • talk 18:13, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
-
- Do you not find you you have also a responsibility against the Wikimedia projects who are using that image? Commons is for creating a catalog of free to use files, yes that is true. But also to serve the wikimedia projects. And if there are files that have a license that can not be used for commons that should be deleted. But not when projects are still using them! That is just plain inresponsible. That image should be fase-out. Or kept until a new file can be found that can be used freely. I have now replaced the deleted photo Image:King Albert II of Belgium 2.jpg whit the national side of the euro coin of Belgium. It is not great but now the link is not broken anymore and there some type of picture of the king.
- Can you point me where you have informed the uploader of this file about the deletion nomination and the entry about this on the Deletion requests page? --Walter 11:25, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
- That is not how we deal with copyright violations on commons. The are "speedy deletions". It would be nice if I could inform every user, and check every implementation across the projects, but that would make the task restrictively laborious, and it's more important to get rid of the unsuitable material. ed g2s • talk 20:14, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
