[edit] Species

It is unsettled whether A. caerulescens, A. canagicus and A. rossii should be in the separate genus, Chen, or they should be placed in the Anser genus. Here they are included with Anser.
In some places Anser fabalis is treated as two species (A. fabalis and A. serrirostris) with 3 and 2 subspecies respectively. Here it is treated as one species with five subspecies.
With different taxonomic systems there could be as many as 11 species in Anser or as few as 7.

Wikispecies Wikispecies has an entry on: Anser.

[edit] Domesticated geese

Domesticated geese derive from Anser anser (European domesticated geese) and Anser cygnoides (Chinese domesticated geese)
