Astrolabe

• English: The astrolabe was an astronomical instrument from antiquity with which to measure the height of celestial objects and to predict the position of stars, planets and the sun in the heavens. It was also used - in modified form - for navigation in the late fifteenth through the sixteenth century. It was superseded by the cross staff in this function.
