Do not upload images of the Atomium in Brussels. This building is copyrighted artwork. Nobody is allowed distributing his own photos of the Atomium without the consent of the copyright holders in Belgium and other countries without The Freedom of Panorama but can be used under certain conditions as stated below. All Atomium images will get deleted in Commons when said conditions aren't met. Thank you for your cooperation.

Atomium image protection details

The not-for-profit organisation, Atomium does what it can to make sure that the image of the Atomium, protected when it was built by its engineer, the late André Waterkeyn, and a symbolic icon, is not misrepresented, misused or used ill-advisedly (for racist, anti-democratic messages etc.).

The rights are managed by SABAM and by Atomium asbl, both appointed by Mr André Waterkeyn, in his lifetime, and now by his trustees. Consequently, any use of the image of the Atomium must be submitted to the organisation before it is published.

Prices depend on whether it is to be used for a cultural, educational or commercial purpose.

There are some cases however where use of the image of the Atomium is not restricted by any rights.

>>> This is the case where photographs are taken by private individuals and shown on private websites for no commercial purpose (the current trend for photo albums), as long as these pictures are displayed at a low resolution (600 pixels maximum, resolution of 72dpi) to avoid abusive usage and downloads.

However, the words "© www.atomium.be - SABAM 2011 - photographers name" must be included next to the image.

In accordance with legislation, usage rights for the image of the Atomium would naturally extend to 4th October 2075, in other words, the seventieth anniversary of André Waterkeyn's death.
