English: Balmoral Castle is in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The original castle was built in the 16th century. In 1852 the estate and buildings were acquired by Prince Albert, consort (husband) of Queen Victoria. In 1855 their new country house around the castle tower was completed, which remains in use to the present day. It is the private property of the monarch, unlike most of the U.K. royal residences, and not part of the state-owned Crown Estate.
