Deutsch: Eine Klappbrücke ist eine bewegliche Brücke, die andere Verkehrswege - häufig Schifffahrtswege - überquert, die nur gelegentlich eine größere Durchfahrtshöhe erfordern. Der bewegliche Tragwerkteil (die Klappe) ist dabei um eine horizontale Achse drehbar gelagert und mit unter dem festen Brückenteil liegenden Hinterruten ausbalanciert.
English: A bascule bridge is a drawbridge with a counterweight that continuously balances the span, or "leaf," throughout the entire upward swing in providing clearance for boat traffic. Bascule is a French term for seesaw and balance, and bascule bridges operate along the same principle.
