The opus vermiculatum floor mosaic is from the House of the Faun — Pompeii.
It is Roman copy, after a Hellenistic original by Philoxenos of Eretria.

Italiano: La Battaglia di Isso (detto anche Mosaico di Alessandro) è un grande mosaico pavimentale in opus vermiculatum (cm 313 x 582), trovato a Pompeii nella Casa del Fauno (VI, 12, 2), datato intorno al 100 a.C. il cui prototipo Plinio il Vecchio ascrive al pittore Philoxenos di Eretria. Probabilmente il mosaico è stato importato (bottino di guerra ?) e non realizzato sul posto, come attesterebbero tutte le incongruenze figurative presenti nella fascia verticale centrale. Attualmente il mosaico si trova a Napoli nel Museo Archeologico Nazionale (inv. nr. 10020).
