Briggate is the largest of the shopping streets within the main pedestrianised shopping area in Leeds City Centre. The Leeds Tramway ran up Briggate until 1959, when it became a main thoroughfare for buses. It was pedestrianised in the 1990s and remains so today. It is arguably the main shopping street in Leeds, West Yorkshire.
