The family Cercopithecidae is divided into the two subfamilies Cercopithecinae (Cheek pouch monkeys) and Colobinae (Leaf-eating monkeys). The differences between these two groups are primarily related to dietary adaptations: Cercopithecins most often eat fruit and have cheek pouches in which they store food for short periods and Colobines have specialized stomachs in order to digest the large amounts of leaves that are the main part of their diet.
