English: Clare is a small town on the north bank of the River Stour in Suffolk, England. It is 22 km from Bury St Edmunds and 14 km from Sudbury. Its name is said to derive from the "clear" nature of the river Stour as it flows through the town. The English Place-Name Society suggests that the name 'Clare' is derived from a pre-English name for the river.
