In the Swiss canton of Graubünden, a district (de: Bezirk, it: distretto, rm: district) is nothing but a judicial district. However, the districts are divided into sub-districts which are their own legal entities. These are termed de: Kreis, it: circolo, rm: cirquit, circul, cumin. Only the sub-districts have coats of arms.

If a sub-district is territorially identical with a single municipality, it will use the same coat of arms. This applies to Avers, Bergaglia, Brusio, Chur, Davos, Klosters and Poschiavo.
