English: The Crusades were a series of wars waged by Roman Catholic Europe. Crusades were fought against Muslims, pagan Slavs and Balts, Russian and Greek Orthodox Christians, Jews, Mongols, Stedingen, Cathars, Hussites, and political enemies of the popes.^[1] Crusaders took vows and were granted indulgence for past sins.^[1]

In the wider sense (not used on Commons) crusade can also refer to any activity undertaken with great fervor.
