London administrative sub-divitions or districts (with the exception of Education and Police) were abolished along with the Greater London Council (GLC).
Today, the boroughs of London are self governing sub-divisions of the UK and urbanisation is so dense, as to have blurred the visible boundaries between former towns and villages. Some of the names are still used and remembered in the names of the postal districts of the postal town of London and in the names of the other postal towns in the London region and thus might as well all be listed in this category.
Up-loaders may find it easier to locate their images by these postal codes if in doubt about the correct locality name.
Some local authorities are putting up Welcome to... signs, but the placement of these follow no strict criteria and so should not be relied upon as anything but a guide.
