Deutsch: Der österreichische Bundespräsident ist das auf sechs Jahre (Art. 60 Abs. 5 B-VG) gewählte Staatsoberhaupt. Seit 1950 wird er in einer direkten Wahl vom Volk gewählt. Er kann für die unmittelbar folgende Funktionsperiode nur einmal wiedergewählt werden und in Summe 12 Jahre ununterbrochen im Amt sein (Art. 60 Abs. 5 B-VG).

English: The Austrian Federal President is the federal head of state of Austria. Though theoretically entrusted with great power by the constitution, in practice the President acts, for the most part, merely as a ceremonial figurehead. The President of Austria is directly elected by universal adult suffrage once in every six years. The presidential offices are located in the Leopoldine Wing of the Hofburg Imperial Palace, in Vienna.
