The flyback converter is a smps-converter with a galvanic isolation between the input and the output(s). To some extent the flyback converter can be seen as an isolated buck-boost converter. Following this approach the buck-boost inductor split is to form a transformer, so that the voltage ratios are multiplied with an additional advantage of isolation.
