Deutsch: Die sogenannte Grüne Zone (der gebräuchliche Name der Internationalen Zone im Irak) ist ein 10 km² großes Areal im Zentrum Bagdads, das die irakische Übergangsregierung beherbergte und das auch weiterhin Zentrum internationaler Präsenz in der Stadt bleibt. Der offizielle Name, der dem Bereich von der irakischen Interimsregierung gegeben wurde, lautet Internationale Zone, trotzdem wird das Areal von den meisten im Allgemeinen als "Grüne Zone" bezeichnet. Demgegenüber steht die sogenannte Rote Zone, die sich auf Teile Bagdads direkt außerhalb der Grünen Zone bezieht, aber auch im allgemeinen für ungesicherte Bereiche außerhalb von Militärposten verwendet wird. Beide Wortschöpfungen kommen aus der militärischen Sprache.

English: The Green Zone, (the common name for the International Zone of Iraq), is a 10 km² (4 mile²) area in central Baghdad that was the center of the Coalition Provisional Authority and remains the center of the international presence in the city. Its official name beginning under the Iraqi Interim Government is the International Zone, though "Green Zone" remains the most commonly used term. The contrasting Red Zone particularly refers to parts of Baghdad immediately outside the perimeter, but is also loosely applied to all unsecured areas outside the off-site military posts. Both terms originated as military designations.
