English: Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia (Amharic: "Power of the Trinity, " full title "His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, King of Kings of Ethiopia and Elect of God" (born Lij Tafari Makonnen, July 23, 1892 – August 27, 1975) was de jure Emperor of Ethiopia from 1930 to 1974 and de facto from 1916 to 1936 and 1941 to 1974. He is also widely known as the religious symbol for God incarnate among the Rastafari movement, founded in Jamaica in the early 1930s. To Ethiopians he has been known by many names, including Janhoy, Talaqu Meri, Abba Tekel, amongst others.
