Hazara also rendered as Hazara or Azra) are a Hazaragi-speaking and ethnic group who live mainly in the central region of Afghanistan, north-west of Baluchistan province of Pakistan and eastern part of Iran in Mashhad. The Hazaras are characterized by their Hazaragi language as they speak for communication. They are mostly Shia Islam|Shia Muslims, with a large Sunni minority, and comprise the third largest ethnic group of the country, about 20 - 25% of its population.
The Hazaras are believed to be the descendant of Genghis Khan. Hazaras have faced several wars and forced displacements. In the mid 18th century, Hazaras have faced persecution during Dost Mohammad Khan's and Emir Abdur Rahman rules. The Hazaras played a vital role during Soviet invasion in Afghanistan in 1979 and in the rise and fall of the Taliban.
The Hazaras hold high position in Balochistan government and Federal government of Pakistan inspite of being a minority and have high literacy rate with 100% till 35-year old.
