The Mahamaham festival is the symbolic equivalent of the Kumbha Mela in the south. Celebrated by millions once every 12 years at the Hindu pilgrimage site of Mahamaham kund (tank), in the month of Magha, within the city limits of Kumbhakonam, Tamil Nadu. Nine Indian river goddesses and Shiva are revered here, with a holy dip in sacred waters of this tank.
