Vienna-based Austrian a cappella quintet Mainstreet was formed in 1980 as a quartet in the style of Manhattan Transfer. The group dissolved by the end of 2008, all of the mebers doing their own projects now.
Since 1996, they were a quintet and had all of their texts in German, and many of them in Viennese slang. Most of the songs are persiflage versions of internationally popular hits. Therefore, Mainstreet were quite popular in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, but hardly known outside German speaking countries. They produced 3 LPs and 5 CDs (one of them a Double-CD).
Members, as of 2008: Founder Willi Dussmann; Anita Horn, Antje Kohler (since 2007), Bernd Kronowetter and Christoph Wigelbeyer (since 2006). Former members: René Kovats (2000-2006), Marianne Schöftner (2000-2007).
