Español: Agostino Codazzi Bartolotti, fue un artillero de origen italiano, además de científico, naturalista, geógrafo, cartógrafo y General de Venezuela y Colombia. Nacido en Lugo, Italia, 12 de julio de 1793, muerto en Espíritu Santo (hoy Codazzi), Colombia, el 7 de febrero de 1859.
Aunque su vocación era militar y se enroló en Europa durante las guerras napoleónicas y en las guerras libertadoras de Suramérica, se le recuerda más por su contribución al conocimiento geográfico de los territorios de Venezuela y Colombia. Sus atlas son el inicio de la gran empresa de autoreconocimiento como naciones y del potencial de cada uno, tanto científico como geográfico.
English: Giovanni Battista Agostino Codazzi (1793-1859), (alternatively known in Latin America as Agustín Codazzi) was an Italian military, scientist, geographer and cartographer. He made his main investigations and cartographic work in Venezuela and Colombia, thereby creating for both countries a complete set of maps and statistics after the tumultuous post-independence years from Spanish Empire, maybe the atlases more complete during the nineteenth century for any country, at least until early twentieth century.
