English: Mari was an ancient Sumerian (2900 BCE) and Amorite city, on the western bank of Euphrates River.
- The archaeological site (present day Tell Hariri, Syria) is located 11 km (6.8 mi) northwest of the modern town of Abu Kamal, some 120 km (75 mi) southeast of Deir ez-Zor, northeastern Syria.
- Mari is thought to have been inhabited since the 5th millennium BCE. It is a Cultural Site on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.
