- In English heraldic terminology, "melusines" are two-tailed mermaids (see Arthur Charles Fox-Davies, A Complete Guide to Heraldry (1909), p. 228 — online texts at: http://www.archive.org/details/completeguidetoh00foxduoft or http://www7b.biglobe.ne.jp/~bprince/hr/foxdavies/fdguide13.htm ).
- In French heraldic terminology, "mélusines", with accent, are mermaids in a tub; Duhoux, Saint-Allais, Riesttap etc... [1]
- Les "Mélusines" en héraldique sont une variante de la sirène se peignant dont elle ne diffère que par l'eau du bain : la mer ou l'onde de la sirène est une cuve pour la mélusine.
