English: Michael Daniel Higgins (born 18 April 1941), known in Irish as Micheál D. Ó hUigínn, and informally known as Michael D., is the ninth President of Ireland, elected in 2011. He was formerly President of the Labour Party of Ireland, a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Galway West constituency, and was the Irish Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht from 1993–97.
