English: "Moor" — a historical European designation for a number of associated ethnic groups of Berber and Arab descent from Northern Africa.
  • The historical Moors were the Islamic people of Al-Andalus on the Iberian Peninsula, in the period between 711 CE and 1492 CE., and subsequently familiar figures in European art, folklore, and heraldry.
  • In the present day the term's usage is used to designate the contemporary Moors ethnic group, speaking the Hassaniya language, and mainly inhabiting Western Sahara, Mauritania, and parts of neighbouring countries in the western Maghreb.
