English: The incorporated town of Normal was laid out in 1854 as North Bloomington; it was renamed in 1865 and incorporated in 1867. It is named after its Illinois State Normal University, a teacher's college now named Illinois State University. With Bloomington, Illinois it forms a "twin cities" metropolitan area.
