Note that there were two quite different ships called "His Majesty's frigate Novara" (S.M. Fregatte Novara):
- One launched in 1850, refit in 1856, which made the circumnavigation.
- A so-called 'refit' which in fact was a new construcion for a propeller-driven threemasted frigate, launched in 1862 and wrecked in 1898. This later one carried Maximillian to Mexico, participated in der Lissa battle, and brought Maximillian's corpse back home. As also its figurehead was different from the earlier one's, one may well talk about two different ships.
