English: The so-called City Pillar Shrine is known to locals as San Klang Mueang (the shrine in the heart of the city). Evidence, that this was ever a city pillar, however, is scanty as there is no mention in inscriptions of it.The idea that this is a city pillar shrine is recent and dates from the reign of King Vajiravudh (Rama VI, reigned 1910–1925) when this site was excavated.
