Works published in the USSR prior to August 23, 1951 are in the public domain in Ukraine if one of the following is true:

1. if the author died before August 23, 1951 and was not rehabilitated after that date;^[1]
2. otherwise, if the copyright was held by an artificial person (e.g. a corporation or the state);
3. otherwise, if the work was published anonymously and the author never became known.

1. ↑ Please note that if an author died before 1951 but his work was published only posthumously (i.e. after his death, 1954 or later), the work is not in the public domain in Ukraine: the copyright term for posthumously published works begins to run at the date of publication, not at the year the author died.
