Penjing (in Chinese, 盆景, tray scenery), is the multi-millennium art of China to grow shaped trees, that are kept small by skilled pruning and formed by being grown in limited space to create both the illusion of age and an aesthetic form. Penjing trees are grown to be exposed outside, in gardens, in public or privat places. Penjing art has three main directions, Tree Penjing, that was copied, imported and developed by Japanese as bonsai, Landscape Penjing and Land Penjing.
