The English people are historically the inhabitants of a number of Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of Britain, then until 1707 of the Kingdom of England which was established in the 9th century, and after that of England within the Kingdom of Great Britain. Since the creation of United Kingdom in 1801, the English are a nation which continues to take its name from England, now a constituency country of the United Kingdom.
