English: A porte-cochere, also called a carriage porch, is the architectural term for a porch or portico-like structure at a main or secondary entrance to a building, through which it is possible for a horse and carriage or motor vehicle to pass, in order for the occupants to alight under cover, protected from the weather.
Français : Une porte cochère, ou passage cocher, est une baie dans la façade d'un bâtiment par laquelle les véhicules peuvent passer pour accéder à la cour arrière à cause de la proximité ou de la juxtaposition de corps de bâtiment voisins ou par l'absence d'un autre accès à la cour arrière et aux dépendances.
