The Regent Theatre in 39 Cathedral Square, Christchurch, was the first building erected in the south-west quadrant of the Square. Opened in 1905, it became known as the Royal Exchange after its anchor tenant. It is registered with the NZHPT as a Category I heritage building, with the register number 1918.
