English: STOL is an acronym for Short Take-Off and Landing, used in the aircraft industry to describe airplanes with very short runway requirements. Includes Vertical take off (VTOL) aircraft. Helicopters, airships and rockets are not included here, because their STOL capability is assumed.

日本語: 垂直離着陸機（すいちょくりちゃくりくき、VTOL(Vertical take-off and landing)）とは、垂直離着陸のできる航空機のこと。但し、通常ヘリコプター（回転翼機）は含まない。実用されているものでは、軍用のハリアー戦闘機やYak-38艦上攻撃機がある。
