English: Scipionyx samniticus was a very small theropod dinosaur from Early Cretaceous Italy. There has been only one skeleton discovered, found in Pietraroja, now in Museo civico di storia naturale in Milan (Italy), which is notable for the preservation of soft tissue and internal organs. It is the fossil of a juvenile only a few inches long. It is considered one of the most important fossil vertebrates ever discovered, after a long and painstaking "autopsy" revealed the unique fossilisation of its internal organs.

Deutsch: Scipionyx samniticus war ein sehr kleiner theropoder Dinosaurier aus der Unterkreide von Italien. Bisher wurde nur ein einzelnes Skelett in Pietraroja gefunden, das sich heute im Museo civico di storia naturale in Milan (Italien) befindet, und wegen der Erhaltung von Weichteilen und inneren Organe bekannt wurde. Es handelt sich um das nur wenige Zoll lange Fossil eines Jungtiers. Es gilt als eines der wichtigsten Wirbeltierfossilien, die jemals entdeckt wurden, seit eine lange und mühsame „Autopsie“ die einzigartige Fossilerhaltung seiner inneren Organe enthüllt hatte.

Il fossile è di eccezionale interesse scientifico in quanto conserva, caso rarissimo, le impronte delle parti molli e addirittura degli organi interni.
