English: The Septizonium was built by the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus, along Via Appia, in 203 AD. It was completely demolished in 1588 by Pope Sixtus V Barberini. This was the origin of the motto Quod non fecerunt barbari, fecerunt Barberini... ("what barbarians did not do, Barberinis did").
