This template takes as first parameter the IUCN threat criteria which takes the values:
- EX => Category:IUCN Extinct species
- PE => Category:IUCN Possibly Extinct species
- EW => Category:IUCN Extinct In The Wild species
- PEW => Category:IUCN Possibly Extinct in the Wild species
- NE => Category:IUCN Not Evaluated species
- DD => Category:IUCN Data Deficient species
- CR => Category:IUCN Critically endangered species
- EN => Category:IUCN Endangered species
- VU => Category:IUCN Vulnerable species
- CD => Category:IUCN Conservation Dependent species
- NT => Category:IUCN Near Threatened species
- LC => Category:IUCN Least Concern species
