The Chronicle History of Henry the Fifth: Play by William Shakespeare, based on King Henry V's military campaign in France, which culminated in the Battle at Agincourt. King Henry's army was victorious over the much more numerous French, and he succeeded in uniting the French and English crowns in his person. France was lost again a short time later, however, under the unstable reign of his son Henry VI, who succeeded him on the throne at a very young age after Henry V had died while himself still in the prime of his years. The then-ensuing War of the Roses for the English crown between the Houses of Lancaster and York was the subject of four other plays by Shakespeare, today most widely known under the titles Henry VI, Part 1, Henry VI, Part 2, Henry VI, Part 3, and Richard III.
