Timothy D. "Tim" Cook (born November 1, 1960) is an American businessman and the current chief executive officer of Apple Inc., having joined the company in March 1998 and became COO in 2007. His primary responsibility is managing day-to-day operations at the company. He was named CEO after Steve Jobs announced his resignation on August 24, 2011. Cook also has served on the board of directors of Nike, Inc. since 2005.ì
