English: Travertine or tufa. Generelly calcium hydrogencarbonate at sweetwater springs and in rivulets (cold, warm or hot) is chemically precipitated and sedimented as calcium carbonate. Diagenetic processes in the sediments gradually generate solid rock (limestone).
Deutsch: Travertin, Kalktuff, Sinter, meist hell-geblich bis braunes, kalkiges Sediment, das nach dem Austritt von Calciumhydrogencarbonat aus kalten, warmen oder heißen Süßwasserquellen chemisch ausgefällt wurde. Das Sediment wird durch diagenetische Prozesse wieder zu dann porösem Kalkstein.
