English: Vadodara, also known as Baroda, is the third most-populated city in the Indian state of Gujarat after Ahmedabad and Surat.
ગુજરાતી: વડોદરા ગુજરાત રાજ્યના મધ્ય ભાગમાં આવેલું વિશ્વામિત્રી નદીને કિનારે વસેલું નગર છે. તેનું જુનું નામ વટપદ્ર છે. વડોદરાનું નામ સંસ્કૃત 'વટસ્ય ઉદરે' ઉપરથી ઉતરી આવ્યું હોવાનું પણ્આ માનવામાં આવે છે. વિશ્વામિત્રી નદીને કિઇનારે ઘણા વડ (સંસ્કૃતઃ વટ વૃક્ષ)નાં ઝાડ હોવાથી, વડ હેઠળ વિકસેલું શહેર 'વટસ્ય ઉદરે' કળક્રમે અપભ્રંશ થતા થતા વડોદરા થઇ ગયું છે.
