- Kandinsky's works are in the public domain in Russia. It is claimed that paintings from his "Russian period" from 1914 to 1921 were thus fine to host here, although their copyright status in other countries is unknown.
- It is also believed that all the rest of Kandinsky's works (done in Germany and France) is subject to copyright in the European Union until 70 years after the death of the painter (i.e., until the end of 2014). In France, the copyright lasts even longer due to wartime extensions.
