English: Wayside shrines are witness of the public religiousness. They are mainly found in German spoken countries like Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Southern-Tyrol, but also in Slovenia and other countries around the Alps. Wayside shrines, portrayals of the way of the cross, altars of procession and free figured monuments are evident in fields, forests, villages, near roads, rivers, etc.
