I would just like to point out that the original text in Arabic was:

"Beersheba is a city in the lands occupied by the Jews in 1948 which lies in south Palestine in the Negev desert."

Not exactly the perfect NPOV phrasing. I changed it into:

"Beersheba is a city in Israel established in 1900 by the Ottoman Empire. Today it is the biggest city in the Negev and the capital of the Israeli South district."

I believe this is an unfortunate case of copying and pasting a passage from the Arabic Wikipedia. The text in ar.wp was changed ages ago due to POV problems and inaccuracies. It is crucial that a text will not be copy-pasted without being read by its language speaker, and that updates to the original text will be checked. Drork 05:56, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
