Historical note[edit]

Foote was the first child of Caleb Foote and Mary Wilder White Foote of Salem, Massachusetts. Caleb worked for the Salem Gazette for 71 years, most of it as its proprietor and chief editor. A freemason, Essex Lodge, he was a central figure in Salem society. Henry Wilder Foote, 1838-1889, was Unitarian minister of King's Chapel, Boston, 1861-1889, from which position he also was highly influential in Boston society.Botteville (talk) 10:55, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
