Category talk:History of Persia
According to the article en:Name of Iran, 'only the name was changed in 1935. There is no difference between Iran and Persia except naming. So Category:History of Persia is needless, I think. Thank you. Takabeg (talk) 03:11, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
- Hmm. That seems problematic to me. In contexts of more ancient history, "Persia" seems the more appropriate term. I've never seen or heard a native English speaker refer to, say, Cyrus as "king of Iran" or to refer to "Iran" in discussing cultural influence in South Asia east of the present-day nation state. - Jmabel ! talk 05:03, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
- When we consider on the point of view of Commons:Categories#Category structure in Wikimedia Commons for Cyrus,
Category:Achaemenid kings > Category:Achaemenid Empire > Ancient Persia > Category:History of Iran are enough and Category:History of Persia is needless between Category:Ancient Persia and Category:History of Iran.

In 1925 the Pahlavi Dynasty came to power, and instructed all embassies to call Persia by its ancient Persian name — Iran.
Are there any sources of it ? As long as I understand, Reza Shah asked foreign delegates to use the term Iran not in 1925 but in 1935.
