Category move[edit]

I don't think the change is necessary. Other airports are often named after a nearby city or a famous person but Schiphol IS the airport. Such unnecessary long names are not user-friendly. Dinsdagskind (talk) 18:20, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Change the name from a simple to complicated, that doesn't seem clever to me. --MB-one (talk) 14:13, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
The official name is Amsterdam Airport Schiphol; Schiphol is just a shorthand. Using it as the category name is an exception to the common practice in Wikimedia Commons. Further, "Schiphol" does not anyhow indicate that the category is about an airport to someone not familiar with aviation and/or the Netherlands. Yes, the official name is a bit more complicated, but not too complicated if compared some other airport names, such as Category:Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport or Category:Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Furthermore, according to en:Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, the name is derived from Fort Schiphol, so it is questionable if Schiphol actually IS the airport. I am still for the move. ––Apalsola tc 13:47, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
If you don't know that Schiphol is an airport, you just have to see the pictures in the category or read one sentence of the Wikipedia article and you'll know. Furthermore, Schiphol is the official place name the in the municipal Basisadministratie Adressen en Gebouwen. Dinsdagskind (talk) 16:23, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
