Category talk:Shaved genitalia
This category has been created to replace Category:Glabrousness.It has been discussed at the village pump in November 2007. This move is based on the argument that the term "glabrousness" is too large and would potentially include photos of people's shaved faces, whereas the purpose of the category was clearly to index pictures of people with shaved genitalia. --TwoWings * to talk or not to talk... 07:30, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Renaissance to 19th-century paintings[edit]
European paintings from the period of the Renaissance to the 19th-century on historical / mythological / allegorical subjects are pretty much irrelevant to this category, since the whole pubic area on females was generally shown as completely blank -- no pubic hair, and no sign of female genitals either. This was a somewhat unfortunate artistic convention, but it was a compromise which was often necessary to allow depictions of nekkid wimmin to be displayed in public. Genital shaving is not really directly relevant to this historical artistic convention of a completely blank genital area, since the artists didn't really have an intention of depicting the results of shaving... - Well I just moved them from category:Glabrousness where they were. If you think the Glabrousness cat could be useful, you may try to find a better way to use and categorize it but as it was, the majority of pictures and the categories (pubic hair...) were showing "glabrousness" was an irrelevant title for its subject/purpose. --TwoWings * to talk or not to talk... 16:12, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- No particular blame to you -- it's just that while these images were relevant to a "genital hairlessness" category, they aren't relevant to a "shaved genitalia" category. That's just the way things work out sometimes... AnonMoos 16:32, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well so we can rename the category again then! I'm sorry but I posted this subject a while ago and I finally did it myself since there wasn't any other idea nor anybody to deal with that! I've removed the "shaved genitalia" category from the historical painting image description pages, so there's no action which needs to be done right at the moment. Maybe we could establish an additional "Artistically blanked-out pubic area" category alongside the "Shaved genitalia" category (which does serve a legitimate purpose of its own). I was sort of following the village pump discussions, but only as far as replacing Category:Intimrasur with Category:Glabrousness. "shaved"?[edit]
hi;
i'm trying to re-work all of the "sex" material on wmc into something a bit more logically organized, with improved (i.e.: more technically correct) & standadized terminology. it's kind of an experiment for improving the sorting of information on wmc in general; i decided to start with with this set of topics, since they are: a) kind of problematic anyway, & b) not really very well organized as-is (i'm sorry, no offense intended to anyone here, but they're just not).
if i can get a system that works for a difficult subject like sex, then it should work for anything...

my questions here:
is this category intended exclusively for human genitalia that have been shaved? or is it meant to cover human genital hairlessness in general?
(i've made this a sub-category of "Human genitalia, hairless" for now, but i'm uncertain whether to simply move everything from here to there & redirect, or to leave this as a sub-cat for shaved specifically?)
also; there is the hypothetical (or not so hypothetical) possibility of non-human hairless and/or shaved genitalia & how that would fit in here?
last: how would partially shaved, or otherwise cut, coloured, or styled (or etc.) pubic hair fit in?
i'll check back in a few days, to see if anyone has responded, has suggestions, etc.

- The original intent of creating this category was apparently expressed in old 2007 Commons Village Pump discussions, but the category name is "Shaved", not "Hairless"... AnonMoos (talk) 08:34, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
